Wash day,
done properly.
Five steps. One quiet hour. And a coat that shows it in the light.
Begin the ritualThere is no need
to rush the ritual.
A proper wash uses less formula than a hurried one. Wet completely, work deliberately, and rinse longer than you think. The shine begins with patience.
Spot-test first.
New horse, new formula, one small patch on the shoulder. Wait a day. The label says so, and we would rather you knew.
Wet through, not merely over.
Use lukewarm water from the hooves upward until the coat darkens and the water sheets. A properly wet coat needs less formula and rinses cleaner.

Build the
lather.
Dilute a small measure in a bucket, or pour it onto a damp sponge. Massage with the grain of the coat. Give mane and tail their own minute, working from ends upward rather than pulling from the root.
Until the water
runs clear.
Rinse from the poll down, keeping water away from the eyes and ears. When the water looks clear, rinse once more. Residue dulls the coat. Patience is the whole trick.
“The finish is decided before the towel ever touches the coat.”
Scrape. Dry.
Comb through.
Draw the sweat scraper with the grain. Towel the places where water gathers. Then comb mane and tail in small sections while they dry.

Bring the standard
to the barn.
